Materials & Supplies
:: small glass vial :: ¼" rare-earth magnet :: seed beads, two colours :: thread :: wax (optional) :: white glue :: e6000 or a clear two-part epoxy :: beading needle :: metal file (optional) :: scissors

Step 1
tie and cut thread

Cut a length of thread measuring 30" (76cm) and run the thread through wax to help keep the thread from tangling. Tie one end around the neck of the glass vial, secure with several knots and reinforce the knots with a little white glue. Allow to dry. Cut off any excess thread from this end.

Step 2
making the first beaded flower

Thread the beading needle and using a single strand, make a beaded daisy.

A. Begin by threading on 5 petal beads and 1 center bead.
B. Take the needle up through the first petal bead and pull beads tight.
C. Thread on 3 more petal beads and take the needle through the 5th petal bead and D. pull beads tight.

Step 3
E.

Wrap your thread once around the neck of the bottle, pulling your beaded flower tight against it. E. Take a stitch around the thread that wraps the neck of the vial to secure it in place. Continue until you have as many flowers as you would like or until you begin to run low on thread, whichever comes first. 30" (78cm) of thread will produce about 5 flowers with 10" of thread left over to tie and finish off.

Step 4
F. G.

To finish off, wrap your thread around the neck of the bottle until you are at what will be the back (the side on which you will glue your magnet). F. Take a stitch through all the threads, and G. pass your needle through the loop to make a knot. Do this several times until you are sure it is secure. Add a dab of white glue to the knot and allow to dry. Cut off excess thread.

Step 5
mark vial with a dot where you would like to place your magnet and file that spot until the dot is gone

As the glass and the magnet have smooth surfaces, you may wish to rough up the glass a bit to help assure good adhesion between the two once glued. Mark a dot with a marker near the top of the vial. File this area using a metal file until you have filed away the dot. This is where you will place your magnet.

Step 6
glue on magnet

Squeeze a small amount of e6000 onto a disposable surface. Using a toothpick, pick up some e6000 and apply to one side of the magnet then press the magnet onto the spot you filed on the vial. Allow to dry according to the manufacturers instructions, usually about 24 to 48 hours.
